Man Fatally Shot At Metro Blue Line Station In Compton

COMPTON (CBSLA.com) — A man was fatally shot Friday at a Metro Blue Line station in Compton.

According to the Metro Transit Sheriff's Department, officials received report of a person armed with a gun on a train.

Just after 8:40 a.m., a shooting was reported at the Artesia Blue Train Station, located at 1920 Acacia Avenue.

When deputies arrived on scene, they found a man suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to Harbor General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A preliminary investigation revealed that two men were involved in a physical confrontation on a ramp that led away from the station.

Deputies explained one of the men produced a gun, shot the other man, and ran from the scene.

The suspect allegedly fired several times after the victim began chasing after him.

An armed security officer saw the shooting, and fired one round at the suspect as he fled from the scene, officials reported.

It is unknown if the suspect was injured by gunfire.

Detectives described the suspect as a black man who was wearing dark clothing and a baseball cap. He was last seen running northbound along the railroad tracks, away from the station, and out of view.

Bus shuttles replaced service between Compton and Artesia and Del Amo stations.
