Perris Man Suspected As Serial Robber In Custody

RIVERSIDE (CBSLA.com) — A 45-year-old man accused of robbing several businesses was in custody on Friday.

According to the Riverside Police Department, John Hernandez of Perris was arrested on Monday during a traffic stop.

Over the last several months, detectives were actively investigating at least two robberies that occurred in the City of Riverside, officers said.

Police explained on Aug. 7, Hernandez allegedly robbed a Starbucks coffee shop just after 5:00 a.m., located in the 19000 block of Van Buren Boulevard.

A second robbery was reported on Aug. 29, where Hernandez allegedly robbed a Farmer Boys Restaurant located in the 2000 block of Alessandro Boulevard.

According to detectives, Hernandez used two separate vehicles during his robberies.

In an effort to locate Hernandez, officers released suspect and vehicle information with surrounding law enforcement agencies.

On Oct. 7, a third robbery was reported in the City of Moreno Valley at Albertacos, located in the 23800 block of Alessandro Boulevard.

Officers said a preliminary investigation revealed this robbery included the same description of Hernandez and his past robberies.

An attempted robbery was reported by a Santana's Restaurant employee around 7:00 a.m. Saturday in the 6700 block of Indiana Avenue.

According to the employee, the suspect was driving a similar vehicle described in earlier robberies Hernandez had allegedly committed.

On Monday, a patrol officer said they recognized the suspect's vehicle and initiated a traffic stop, where Hernandez was detained.

According to police, search warrants of his vehicle and home revealed evidence from the previous robberies.

Detectives said this investigation is still ongoing.
