Perris Man Ordered To Stand Trial For 3 Random Killings

MURRIETA (AP) — A Southern California man will stand trial for allegedly stabbing to death three strangers in random attacks.

A Riverside County judge ruled Friday there's enough evidence to try David Rey Contreras of Perris for murder with sentence enhancements that make him eligible for the death penalty.

He's jailed and it's unclear if he has a lawyer.

Prosecutors say Contreras killed a man whose body was found in a Perris field in December of 2012. Fifty-three-year-old Jose Apreza went missing while walking his dog.

Contreras also is charged with killing two women in February of 2013. Fifty-one-year-old Maria Gonzalez and her 25-year-old daughter, Consuelo Gonzalez, vanished while taking a walk.

Their bodies were found in the street near their Nuevo home.

A motive for the slayings hasn't been disclosed.
