Authorities arrested a man who is suspected of fleeing the scene of a crash after they hit a pedestrian in Perris last week.

The collision happened on March 15 at around 9 p.m.  on N. Perris Boulevard, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

They say that the victim, who has only been identified as a Perris resident, was standing in the No. 1 lane on the southbound side of the street when was hit by a 2020 Ford Edge.

Instead of stopping to help, the driver fled from the area heading towards the Ramona Expressway.

Multiple witnesses to the crash called 911 and paramedics arrived to treat the patient who was taken to a nearby hospital where he is said to remain in critical condition at the latest.

Investigators were able to confirm the license plate of the Ford and traced it to 58-year-old Nuevo resident Sergio Armand Peralta Herrera. He was arrested on Thursday near Dunlap Drive and Nuevo Road and booked on suspicion of hit-and-run resulting in injury, they said.

Deputies did not provide further information on possible charges that Herrera could face.
