Pepperdine Clinches Winning Season With 64-55 Victory Over Santa Clara

MALIBU (AP) — Jett Raines scored 19 points and Pepperdine clinched its first winning season since 2004-05 with a 64-55 victory over Santa Clara on Thursday night.

The Waves (16-11, 9-7 West Coast Conference) received offense off their bench from Shawn Olden (16 points) and Lamond Murray Jr. (15).

Jared Brownridge scored 18 points and Denzel Johnson 13 for the Broncos (11-16, 5-10), who have lost six straight. Their last victory came at home over Pepperdine on Jan. 24.

A 9-2 run gave Pepperdine its largest lead of the night — 13 points — with 1:52 remaining. The Broncos cut it to eight with 38 seconds left before the Waves made three free throws.

A basket by Murray and six straight points from Olden gave the Waves a 23-15 lead with 14:18 left in the first half, and they wouldn't trail again.

Pepperdine, fifth nationally in 3-point defense, held Santa Clara to 2-of-18 from the arc.
