Passengers Stranded Overnight After Qantas Jets Collide At LAX

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — About 600 passengers were stranded at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) overnight after two Qantas aircraft collided, airline officials said Friday.

The wing tips of two Qantas aircraft, an A380 and B747, came into contact at approximately 9 p.m. Thursday night while being towed out of a hangar at LAX, according to a Qantas spokesperson.

No passengers were on board either aircraft, officials said. Both planes were being prepared for flights to Australia. After they were assessed by engineers, one of the flights was canceled, the spokesperson said.

Customers were provided with hotel rooms overnight and were expected to be accommodated on the next available flight, officials said.
