Arrest Made In Suspected Arson Fire At Pasadena Victorian Home

PASADENA (CBSLA) — A man was arrested on suspicion of arson after a fire damaged a two-story Victorian home in Pasadena.

Firefighters responded to the home, near Fair Oaks Avenue and Mountain Street, at about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday to find flames coming from the second floor. A second alarm was requested, and 55 firefighters surrounded the home and moved to protect its neighbors, Pasadena Fire Deputy Chief Bryan Frieders said.

Witnesses had described a possible subject last seen in the building before it caught fire, Pasadena Fire's Lisa Derderian said, prompting a callout for the department's arson investigator.

"One of the witnesses who was still at the scene saw the same subject from earlier standing in the crowd at the location and pointed him out to the arson investigator," Derderian said. "The subject was contacted by the arson investigator and a preliminary interview took place."

The man was then arrested.

The fire was brought under control at about 11 p.m., he said. No other homes were damaged and no injuries were reported.

Wednesday's fire is the second one at this home in nearly a year.
