Pasadena Toddler With Leukemia Needs Bone Marrow Donor
LONG BEACH (CBSLA.com) — A 2-year-old Pasadena girl with leukemia needs a bone marrow donor.
Sofia Flores needs a marrow transplant to battle acute myeloid leukemia. Her family, however, said it's been difficult to find her a match because of her mixed ethnicity.
Sara Arroyo of A3M, a donor recruitment agency, said Flores only has about two more months to find a match.
"That's the only time she has left," Arroyo said. "No other drug or medication is going to save her but a bone marrow transplant, so it is a very urgent thing."
Dozens of volunteers showed up in Long Beach Thursday to help find Flores a donor.
An application and cheek swab only takes a few minutes.
"We want as many people to register, so she has the best chance possible," Arroyo said.
On March 27, a drive is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 601 W. Ocean Boulevard in Long Beach.
