Pasadena Apartment Standoff Over After Residents Evacuated

PASADENA (CBSLA.com)  — An overnight standoff involving an armed suspect, who was camped on a balcony, came to a peaceful conclusion on Sunday morning.

Pasadena Police had asked residents near Penn and Summit to stay indoors and to stay low on Saturday night, shortly after the report of an adult male on a balcony, holding a firearm, was made at about 9 p.m.

Firefighters and active police officers remained on the scene through the early morning hours Sunday, investigating the area to make sure it is safe to allow residents back into the neighborhood.

About 20 residents were displaced when the standoff ensued, and spent nine hours outside, waiting for the standoff's conclusion.

Authorities say the suspect, who is now in custody, does not live in the apartment, but was visiting. After police arrived, the suspect retreated back into the apartment, where he kept authorities at bay throughout the night.

Police convinced the suspect to come out of the apartment complex at about 6 a.m. Sunday, at which point he was arrested.
