Parolee Who Pulled Rifle On Rialto Officer And Fled Now In Custody

RIALTO (CBSLA.com) — A parolee who allegedly pulled an assault rifle on an officer in Rialto and then led authorities on a manhunt was in police custody Thursday, officials said.

Darnell White III, 21, was arrested Thursday morning in Banning, according to a law enforcement source.  Additional details about his arrest were not released.

White is accused of pulling a fully loaded rifle on a Rialto police officer Wednesday morning following a traffic stop.

"The officer believed he was about to be fired upon and fired multiple rounds at the suspect," Sgt. David Shepherd said.

White left the weapon in the vehicle and ran to a nearby residence. It was unclear if he was injured.

The home was later cleared by the Inland Valley SWAT Team after a search revealed that White had fled.
