Parents To Rally In Downtown LA In Support Of Special Needs Students

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Parents of Los Angeles Unified school district students with special education needs were set Friday to stage a protest over what they say are rights violations against "thousands" of children.

The rally will kick off at LAUSD headquarters at 333 S. Beaudry Avenue and wind its way to the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) building at 1313 W. 8th Street, according to organizers.

Parents behind the protest say school district officials are downplaying reports that indicate the LAUSD is failing to comply with a modified consent decree linked to the district's handling of students with disabilities.

The LAUSD currently has roughly 82,000 special needs students, according to reports.
