Palm Desert College Student Diagnosed With Tuberculosis

PALM DESERT (CBSLA.com) — Health officials Wednesday reported a student attending Cal State San Bernardino has been diagnosed with active tuberculosis.

Authorities said the student is receiving treatment and is expected to recover. They will not return to the Palm Desert Campus until medical clearance has been issued.

Due to confidentiality requirements, their identity will not be released.

Riverside County health officials explained they are working with university officials to identify any students and staff members who may have been exposed to the illness.

According to Public Health Officer Dr. Cameron Kaiser, the risk of transmission is very low.

Those who are considered to be at risk will be notified through a letter by authorities.

Anyone who receives a letter is urged to be screened with a tuberculosis skin test as a precautionary measure.

The test requires all patients to return 48 hours after receiving the test for further evaluation.

A clinic will be held at the Palm Desert Campus on April 7 and April 14.
