Pair Accused Of Pointing Laser At Sheriff's Chopper Arrested In Agoura Hills

AGOURA HILLS (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say two people accused of aiming a laser pointer at a Los Angeles County Sheriff's helicopter have been arrested.

Christopher Cooper, 31, of Lake Elsinore and Tanjelina Meredith, 33, of San Juan Capristrano were arrested while visiting a friend in Agoura Hills.

The laser, according to deputies, had been pointed at a chopper about 11:30 p.m. Tuesday as it was taking part in a training exercise.

"During the training, the sheriff's helicopter flight crew told patrol deputies that a laser had been pointed at the helicopter from the ground," the LASD said in a statement.

The helicopter's pilot directed deputies to the source of the laser strike, which deputies say turned out to be a home on Francisca Way.

According to the LASD, the pair was booked on suspicion of discharging a laser at an aircraft, which is a felony.

Bail has been set at $20,000.
