Oxnard Man Arrested In Planned Parenthood Arson Fire

THOUSAND OAKS (CBSLA.com) — An arrest has been made in connection with an arson fire at a Planned Parenthood office in Thousand Oaks.

Alvaro Perez, 24, of Oxnard was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of arson in connection with the Sept. 30, 2015 fire.

Perez, who is currently in custody on other charges including vandalism, domestic violence and possessing a firearm, is currently awaiting sentencing in another criminal case and is not eligible to be freed.

Thousand Oaks police officers responded to an alarm call at Planned Parenthood, 122 W. Hillcrest Dr., just before midnight and discovered a fire had been set inside the building. The fire was quickly extinguished by the Ventura County Fire Department, but much of the first floor was heavily damaged by the building's overhead fire sprinkler system.

Authorities say the Perez's crime against Planned Parenthood was the result of a domestic feud and not extremism.

Perez, who is being held on a total of $150,000 bail but is not eligible for release, is scheduled to make his next court appearance Thursday.
