Oxnard Family Ambushed In Mexico Crowdfunds Medical Bills

OXNARD (CBSLA.com) — An Oxnard family is trying to recover after being ambushed in Mexico. The attack killed one man in the family and injured three others, including two recent high school graduates.

The Ramos family says that on July 31, brothers Bruno and Jesus Ramos were riding in a car in the Michoacán province with their father, Ignacio Ramos, and uncle, whose name has not been released, when their car was attacked. All four occupants of the vehicle were hit by bullets, and the teenagers' uncle was killed.

The three survivors were transported to San Diego for care and have since been released from the hospital. The family believes they were attacked by members of drug cartels and said they have no affiliation with those criminal groups.

The family has set up a GoFundMe crowdfunding campaign to attempt to raise $50,000 to pay for their medical bills. The family has already garnered support from students and faculty at Channel Islands High School of Oxnard, from which Bruno and Jesus recently graduated.
