Overnight Search Turns Up Man Suspected Of Firing At Deputies In East LA
MONTEBELLO (CBSLA.com) — Law enforcement spent all night Saturday searching for a man who shot at sheriff's deputies and fled. Six hours later, they caught up to the 30-year-old suspect, who had been holed up in a East L.A. home.
Deputies were called to a residence in the 6000 block of East 6th Street to investigate a report of child abuse, L.A. Sheriff's Department Sgt. Harry Drucker said. They were told the suspect, Commerce resident David Martinez, was armed and might shoot at them.
When law enforcement arrived the suspect did end up shooting at them and deputies returned fire, Drucker said. No deputies were injured.
Martinez reportedly fled from the home on foot and a SWAT team was called as deputies scoured the area.
At 3:30 a.m. Sunday, deputies found Martinez around the corner, trapped inside a house in the 600 block of School Avenue.
He was placed under arrest at 5:30 a.m. and taken to a hospital for treatment of an unspecified injury.
A weapon reportedly was recovered at the house where he was hiding.
