Older Horse Rescued From Simi Valley Drainage Ditch

SIMI VALLEY (CBSLA.com) — Firefighters and a veterinarian are working to rescue an older horse that became stuck in a drainage ditch in Simi Valley Monday.

Firefighters were called out to the 1200 block of Nonchalant Drive at about 8:50 a.m. and found a 32-year-old horse that had fallen into a small drainage ditch, Ventura Fire Department spokesman Capt. Mike Lindbery said.

The horse, an Arabian named Ashley, apparently decided to lie down in the ditch and her legs went above her head, Lindbery said. She was sedated in preparation for removal from the ditch.

Firefighters broadcast the rescue live online.

Crews successfully removed the horse from the ditch and are waiting to see if she can stand on her own. The horse suffered a few scrapes, which a veterinarian bandaged, Lindbery said.
