CHP officer ambushed outside King Taco in East LA

A shooting involving law enforcement officers in East Los Angeles was under investigation Tuesday.

It happened around 9 a.m. at Ford Boulevard in East LA. According to investigators, a California Highway Patrol officer was driving when he came under gunfire. He immediately requested additional units and said he was being shot at. 

When additional officers arrived, including LA County Sheriff transit deputies, they were also shot at and returned gunfire on two adult male Hispanic suspects, investigators added. 

One of the suspects was struck by gunfire. He was taken into custody and is at a local hospital. His condition is unknown. 

The other suspect ran away and is currently at large. 

"Hopefully they find the second guy cause we don't need him out here just roaming around in the neighborhood," said witness Adonnica Genon. 

No officers were injured during the incident. 

Video from the scene showed the rear window of a law enforcement vehicle shattered by gunfire.

"I just heard gunshots, I instantly put my son under the dashboard on the floor in the car, and then I dropped down the passenger seat," said Genon. 

According to the CHP, some on-ramps and off-ramps to and from the nearby 710 Freeway were closed while the investigation was conducted. 

Due to the investigation, Metro L (Gold) Line trains were not running between the Indiana and East LA Civic Center stations, according to Metro. 

Buses are shuttling riders between those stations, but passengers should anticipate delays.
