Off-Duty Police Officer, Suspect Exchange Gunfire In Hollywood

HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — Police Wednesday searched for an armed man who opened fire on an off-duty police officer in Hollywood.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, officers responded just before 6:00 a.m. to the area of Franklin and Argyle avenues for a help call.

Upon their arrival, authorities learned an armed man approached an off-duty police officer and confronted him.

The officer fired his weapon at the suspect and called for backup.

It remains unclear if the suspect was struck by gunfire.

No officers were injured.

Police have set up a large perimeter from Hollywood Boulevard to Franklin, Gower and Van Ness avenues to search for the suspect. Detectives are also searching each house in the area.

The investigation is ongoing.
