Officer Hit As Police In Southern California Shoot 2 Suspects, Killing 1 In Separate Incidents

HAWTHORNE (AP) — Police in two Southern California cities shot a pair of suspects in separate incidents Saturday, with one man ending up dead and an officer going to the hospital with a bullet wound to the leg.

Authorities said that an officer in Hawthorne was shot during an exchange of gunfire with a customer who refused to leave a storage facility. The officer was expected to survive.

In Anaheim, officers killed a 29-year-old man suspected of intentionally ramming a car on a freeway Saturday night, then fleeing. Witnesses pointed officers to a residential courtyard, where the deadly confrontation occurred.

Anaheim Police Sgt. Daron Wyatt said Sunday that the Orange County District Attorney's office was investigating the circumstances of that shooting.
