LAX Motorcycle Officer Struck By Hit-And-Run Driver In Playa Del Rey

PLAYA DEL REY (CBSLA.com) — A Los Angeles Airport Police motorcycle officer was struck by a hit-and-run driver Tuesday in Playa del Rey.

A Toyota Corolla, with a California license plate that reads "7PDY491," struck the officer's motorcycle shortly after midnight near the area of Manchester Ave and Pershing Drive, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Paramedics transported the officer, who is a 14 year veteran with LAX police, to a hospital for treatment of fractured wrists, abrasions and contusions.

The suspect vehicle fled from the scene.

Francisco Arreola, 28, has been arrested in connection with the crash. He was booked on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, and felony hit-and-run.

Two other passengers were riding in Arreola's vehicle, but neither were detained.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
