Off-Duty Deputy Trying to Avoid Coyote Injured In Motorcycle Crash

SANTA CLARITA (AP) — Los Angeles County sheriff's officials say an off-duty deputy riding a department motorcycle was hurt when he crashed while trying to avoid hitting a coyote in the road.

The accident happened on Wiley Canyon Road near Canerwell Street near the Santa Clarita station at 11:30 p.m. Monday, sheriff's Lt. Derek Sabatini said.

"He was leaving work on his department motorcycle," Sabatini said. "A coyote ran in front of him. He avoided the coyote but put down his bike."

The deputy was hospitalized after complaining of pain. The extent of his injuries was not known.
