Off-Duty Deputy Accidentally Shoots Another While Camping

KERN COUNTY (CBSLA.com) —   An off-duty Sheriff's deputy accidentally shot another off-duty colleague while both were camping Sunday.

The deputies both work out of the Palmdale station.

Authorities said the deputies were camping in a remote area of Kern County when one deputy accidentally fired his non-department weapon.The injured deputy was shot in the leg and transported to a local hospital. His injury is considered non-life threatening.

Detectives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, assigned to the Internal Affairs Bureau, were notified in order for them to conduct an investigation. Complete circumstances of the incident are also being investigated by the Kern County Sheriff's Department as the shooting took place in their jurisdiction.
