OC Prosecutors: Shooting Of Unarmed Man Justified

SANTA ANA (AP) — The Orange County District Attorney's office says a police officer was legally justified in the fatal shooting of an unarmed after a foot chase because she believed he was going to grab her gun.

The district attorney released a statement Monday saying Officer Jessica Guidry feared for her life when she fired on 22-year-old Hans Arellano at a Santa Ana strip mall last July.

The report says Guidry, a 13-year department veteran at the time, believed Arellano was going to grab her gun and that she would be in a fight for her life if she didn't shoot.

Guidry says she felt it was necessary to approach Arellano with her gun drawn based on Arrellano's mannerisms and the fact that he had just run from an officer.
