OC Students Sell Lemonade To Raise Money, Awareness In Honor Of Peer With Rare Skin Disease

IRVINE (CBSLA.com) — Dozens of Orange County elementary school students Monday raised money and awareness for a rare skin disease one of their peer's suffers from.

Up to 80 students from Springbrook Elementary School in Irvine sold lemonade at four stands from 9:30 to 2 p.m. in honor of Mikey Fullmer, a 3rd grader, who suffers from Epidermolysis Bullosa.

"It's epic," Fullmer said of the fundraiser. "I've never felt so handsome before."

EB is a rare skin disease impacting children and is characterized by blisters and erosions all over the body. There is currently no cure, and treatment often comes in the form of wound care, intensive bandaging and managing debilitating pain and infection.

"...it has to be soft foods that don't tear up the lining of his mouth and asophagus," Mikey's mother Heather said of his diet.

Sores can even be caused by clothes, or hugs.

All profits from Springbrook's Day of Service lemonade stands went to the EB Research Partnership, which was founded by Mikey's parents Ryan and Heather.
