OC Congressman 'Being Seriously Considered' For Secretary Of State In Trump White House

SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) – A U.S. Congressman from Orange County has reportedly become a potential candidate to serve as Secretary of State under President-elect Donald Trump.

California Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-48) told KNX 1070 NEWSRADIO he's been "approached" about the post, which until recently was presumed to be likely granted to former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.

"All I can say is that I've been approached by a number of people and I'm being seriously considered," said Rohrabacher.

According to the Washington Examiner, Rohrabacher has emerged a a front-runner for the position after the potential pick of Romney spurred "deep division" among Trump staffers.

Rohrabacher - a former Reagan speechwriter and Afghan policy expert - said he believes his track record would be an excellent fit for the nation's top diplomatic post.

"I do have a long history in terms of my experience with foreign policy, and that of course is a number one prerequisite for being Secretary of State," he said. "For the last 28 years I've been on the Foreign Affairs committee and I've been very active."

In addition to Rohrabacher, Trump's cabinet team is also reportedly considering former United Nations ambassador and longtime GOP diplomat John Bolton as deputy Secretary of State.
