OC Beaches Slowly Re-Open After Aggressive Shark Sighting

HUNTINGTON BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Several Orange County beaches remain closed Friday after a surfer reported a run-in with an aggressive shark.

Lifeguards at Sunset Beach, however, gave swimmers the all-clear Friday just before 2 p.m.

According to lifeguards, a two-mile stretch of water from Surfside to Sunset beaches, along with a portion of Bolsa Chica Beach, will remain closed until 4 p.m. today unless there is another shark sighting.

Shortly before 3:30 p.m. Thursday, lifeguards learned a 10-foot great white shark rushed toward a surfer located off 23rd Street in Sunset Beach.

According to the surfer, the shark's dorsal fin was exposed.

Lifeguards said the surfer was able to ride a wave back to shore.

No injuries were reported.
