O.C. Bank Teller Accused Of Ripping Off Elderly Customers For More Than $200K
HUNTINGTON BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Authorities said a bank teller in Orange County ripped off elderly customers for nearly $250,000.
Huntington Beach Police said the Secret Service arrested Jake Chih Wie Cheng, 23, at his home in Tustin on Friday.
About $200,000 was siphoned away from a trusting victim in Huntington Beach. After the teller was transferred to San Clemente, another elderly victim was hit for $40,000 more, officials said.
Cheng was reportedly fired by Wells Fargo when the embezzlement was discovered.
The suspect is facing enhanced federal charges because the victims were elderly, according to the Huntington Beach police, who helped make the arrest.
At the Wells Fargo branch at 7902 Edinger Ave. in Huntington Beach, Cheng befriended an elderly man and convinced him to give him money. After several months, police said Cheng begin forging checks drawn on the man's account.
