NYC Fire Captain Extradited To LA On Child Sex Assault Charges

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A New York City fire captain charged with sexually assaulting two Southland children has been extradited to Los Angeles and was being held on $2.6 million bail.

Wilbert Riera, 51, was booked Tuesday on six felony counts of lewd acts upon a child under 14 and was expected to be arraigned Thursday.

According to the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office, Riera was visiting Hollywood when the crimes occurred between Sept. 12 and 14.

Riera, who is a 21-year veteran of the NYFD, appeared in a New York court Monday where he waived his right to extradition.

If convicted, Riera faces up to life in state prison.
