NWS Issues Hard Freeze Warning For Antelope Valley

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Dry and windy conditions developing in Southern California could lead to an elevated risk of wildfire, forecasters said Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service, strong northeast Santa Ana winds are expected to blow until Saturday.

The strongest gusts will occur between Thursday night and Friday morning, when the humidity level will drop between 5 and 10 percent.

A fire watch will be enforced for Greater Los Angeles areas from Thursday afternoon to Friday afternoon.

Meanwhile, a hard freeze warning remains in effect until 9 a.m. for residents living in the Antelope Valley. The warning will be in force again tonight through Thursday morning.

Meteorologists explained this warning indicates that temperatures of 28 degrees or lower are expected to last for at least two consecutive hours.

During these cold conditions, animals should be brought indoors to protect against hypothermia. Plants should also be brought inside and exposed pipes should be wrapped to keep them from freezing.

Temperatures are expected to be in the 70s for most of the Southland today.
