Nurse In Critical Condition After Being Stabbed By Stranger Multiple Times

SYLMAR (CBSLA.com) — A nurse is in critical condition after being stabbed while on-duty at a hospital in Sylmar, authorities said Sunday.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said in a written statement that the woman was stabbed in both the lower and upper torso multiple times.

The incident at Olive View-UCLA Medical Center happened about 2 a.m.

Prior to the stabbing, deputies said the suspect had entered the hospital and allegedly bypassed the screening area.

As authorities searched for him, they heard a woman scream, and located the nurse.

"They located the victim, a female adult," the statement said. "She was stabbed an unknown number of times in the upper and lower torso."

The statement said the nurse was transported for medical treatment. She was in critical condition.

Deputies identified the stabbing suspect as 26-year-old Romiro Carnalla of Los Angeles. He was detained.

Authorities told KCAL9's Brittney Hopper the suspect and victim were not acquainted.

Officials said the suspect is being held in lieu of $55,000 bail. He was charged with assault with a deadly weapon.

Authorities said a knife was recovered at the scene.
