Norwalk Woman Killed In Hit-And-Run Crash

NORWALK (CBSLA.com) — A Norwalk woman was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver early Saturday morning as she walked away from a party.

Belen Nieves, 36, was hit by the white Chevrolet Impala at about 12:50 a.m. near Hopland Street and Elaine Avenue, according to Lt. Eric Smitson of the Los Angeles County sheriff's Norwalk station. The driver, described as a man in his mid-20s, then sped off, and the car has not been found.

Paramedics took Nieves to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where she was pronounced dead about 40 minutes after the crash, according to the Orange County coroner's office.

The sheriff's department continues to investigate the crash, and anyone with information is asked to call the Norwalk station at (562) 863-8711.
