Norwalk Man, 23, Accused Of Beating 2-Year-Old Boy

LONG BEACH (CBSLA.com) — A 23-year-old man from Norwalk has been accused of beating a 2-year-old boy.

Elder Matamoros was arrested Tuesday and was charged with cruelty to a child likely to produce great bodily injury or death. He's being held on $100,000 bail.

Shortly before 1 p.m. Sunday, deputies from the sheriff's Norwalk Station responded to a "baby not breathing" call in the 11400 block of Maza Street.

The boy was unresponsive. He's currently at a Long Beach hospital in extremely critical condition.

Detectives said Matamoros, the boyfriend of the toddler's babysitter, is suspected of assaulting the boy, causing blunt force trauma.

Anyone with information about the crime was asked to contact the sheriff's Homicide Bureau at (323) 890-5500.
