Non-Profit Organization Picks Fruit For The Needy

LONG BEACH (CBSLA.com) – Volunteers were on the hunt for ripe tangerines in a backyard in Long Beach Tuesday.

It was all part of SoCal Harvest, a non-profit organization that picks fruit donated by homeowners, which is then given to the underserved.

Many people said their trees produce so much fruit and much of it falls on the ground and goes to waste.

Since SoCal Harvest began in 2009, they have picked about 50,000 pounds of fruit that has gone to local food banks.
