New Transportation Hub Opens To Commuters In Anaheim

ANAHEIM (CBSLA.com) — Orange County commuters are taking their first steps toward public transportation with a new hub in Anaheim that combines rail, bus, shuttles and taxis.

Monday was the first weekday of business for ARTIC, or Anaheim Regional Transportation Intermodal Center, the region's newest transportation hub. ARTIC combines bike-friendly rail, bus, resort shuttles and taxi connections at one convenient location across from the Honda Center, KNX 1070's Ron Kilgore reports.

The new hub will make it easier to get to work or play, easier and faster, Anaheim spokeswoman Ruth Ruiz said.

"It'll save people time, rather than have to move to find their different connections throughout different locations in Anaheim," Ruiz said. "They're gonna come to ARTIC, arrive, depart, all from the same location."

The $190 million transportation hub will help commuters be more productive on the ride to and from work, stress-free and on time, city officials said.

The Orange County Transportation Authority paid most of the hub's estimated $105 million construction cost, but maintenance costs are up to the city, which is still looking for a major corporate sponsor.

A grand opening celebration featuring food, music, tours and more, is set for 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
