New Project Aims To Ease Congestion On 210 Freeway Through Pasadena
PASADENA (CBSLA.com) — Caltrans and the Department of Transportation are launching a new project designed to ease congestion on the 210 Freeway through Pasadena.
The federally- and state-backed Integrated Corridor Management Plan will transform a 22-mile stretch of the 210 Freeway into a "smart freeway," linking traffic information in order to relieve bottlenecks.
It will use roadway sensors and drivers' GPS cellphone data to acquire real-time traffic information on the 210 and area surface streets for websites, media, freeway ramps and message signs, the San Gabriel Valley Tribune reported.
The program will also allow the DOT to control area streetlights when an accident occurs, while Caltrans will control ramp meters.
In recent months, several big rig crashes have caused major delays and even interrupted service on the Metro Gold Line.
The first phase of the project will take two years to implement.
