New Exhibit At LACMA Creates Interior Downpour, But No One Gets Wet

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A new exhibit is opening up at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art this weekend, one where water creates an interior downpour, but no one gets wet.

The work by the London-based artist collective Random International opens on Sunday and will be on display through March 6.

As visitors pass through the Rain Room, sensors detect their presence and the rain above them pauses.

Throughout the entire run of the exhibit, the museum says approximately 528 gallons of water will be used within a self-contained system.

"The average American family of four uses 400 gallons of water per day," the museum said in a document online, citing the EPA.

A gallery visit to the exhibit lasts between 10 to 15 minutes, the museum said.
