New CBS Thriller 'Extant' Premiers Wednesday

STUDIO CITY (CBSLA.com) — Goran Visnjic stopped by CBS2 News This Morning Wednesday to talk about his new science fiction thriller "Extant".

Visnjic stars as John Woods, who is married to Halle Berry's character Molly Woods, an expectant mother on a 13-month solo mission as an astronaut.

The pair have a robot son named Ethan, who is played by Pierce Gagnon. 

CBS reports "Extant", meaning "not extinct," stems from Woods' character struggle to keep his family alive.

Show creator Mickey Fisher worked his way from musical theater to the world of television writing with his script for "Extant". Network executives fell in love with the script and hired on Steven Spielberg as the executive producer for the show.

"It is science fiction, it's also family drama, it's also a suspense thriller," CBS Entertainment Chairman Nina Tassler told City News Service. "All of those elements are so exquisitely balanced in the story telling."

Berry told CBS that there were many factors that drew her into the role, especially being able to relate to her character after just giving birth for a second time.

The first season is slated for 13-episodes, and network officials are already looking into bigger ideas, possibly a second season.

"Extant" premieres Wednesday at 9 p.m. on CBS2.
