LOS ANGELES (AP) — Mamadou Ndiaye scored a career-high 21 points, on 10-of-11 shooting, and Will Davis II scored 17 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to help UC Irvine beat Loyola Marymount 80-72 on Saturday night.

Travis Souza hit 4 of 5 3-point shots and finished with 16 points for UC Irvine (3-2), which shot 53.4 percent from the floor and never trailed.

Alex Young added 11 points and six assists.

Matt Hayes capped 8-2 Loyola Marymount run with a 3-pointer, pulling the Lions (3-3) to 61-58 with 8:41 left, but they would get no closer.

A layup and a dunk by Ndiaye sparked an 11-3 spurt, which was capped by two free throws and a 3 by Souza, and pushed the UC Irvine lead to 11 with 4:27 to play.

Jumpers by Evan Payne and Hayes made it 72-65 with 2:14 left, but Souza hit a 3 to put it out of reach.
