Evacuations Ordered As Brush Fire Erupts In Murrieta, Home Destroyed

MURRIETA (CBSLA) — Firefighters were on the scene of a brush fire in Murrieta that had grown to 300 acres and destroyed one home Thursday.

The Liberty Fire was reported shortly after 1 p.m. near Liberty and Los Alamos roads in an unincorporated county area of Murrieta.

The fire had grown to 300 acres and was 10 percent contained as of 8:07 p.m., according to the Riverside County Fire Dept.

Southern California Edison was working to restore power to approximately 50 customers through the evening.

Evacuations were in place for residents bordering Los Alamos Road between Ruth Ellen and Briggs Road, Maclean & Golden Eagle.

One structure and one outbuilding were destroyed.

Murrieta Mesa High School is open as a care and reception center.
