A motorcyclist was wounded in a shooting on the 215 Freeway in Murrieta early Thursday morning, according to California Highway Patrol investigators.

It happened a little after 12:30 a.m. on southbound lanes of the freeway near Clinton Keith Road, a news release from CHP said.

"The male was shot in the leg as he was riding," the release said. "The male was able to stop his motorcycle on the shoulder and go to a local business for help."

The victim, only identified as a 34-year-old man from Murrieta, was taken to a nearby hospital by ambulance, police said.

As the investigation was ongoing, CHP officers closed all southbound lanes between Scott Road and Clinton Keith Road until around 7:40 a.m.

"At this time, there is no information on the suspect or suspect vehicle," the CHP release said.

Anyone who knows more was asked to contact CHP's Temecula Office at 951-466-4300.
