PERRIS (CBSLA.com) — At least eight vehicles were involved in a crash that closed the 215 Freeway in both directions near Fourth Street in Perris on Saturday evening, authorities said.

The California Highway Patrol said the crash was reported at 5:07 p.m., and occurred on the southbound side of the freeway.

Six people suffered minor injuries and were taken to a hospital for treatment, according to Melody Hendrickson of the Riverside County Fire Department.

Hendrickson told City News Service that some of the vehicles in the crash caught fire.

The entire freeway was closed for a time, according to the CHP, with the northbound lanes reopening first.
