Mud, Rock Slides Wreak Havoc On Castaic Area Prompting SIG Alert

CASTAIC (CBSLA.com) —    A series of mud and rock slides in the Castaic area have closed several major roads, officials said Sunday evening.

A SIG Alert has been issued for the northbound 5 Freeway from Parker Road to Fort Tejon, through the Grapevine, an area estimated by the CHP as about 40 miles.

The alert was called just after 7:20 p.m.

All onramp and offramp exits at Parker were closed for hours due to rock slides.

Residents in the area said several roads have been covered in mud and debris.

The 5 was backed up for miles. CBS2's Rebecca Ferriter reported that at one point it took her about one hour to go one mile.

As of 11:15 p.m., CHP told CBS2/KCAL9 that all lanes of the 5 Freeway were being re-opened.
