Mountain High Expecting El Niño-Sized Snow Season This Winter

WRIGHTWOOD (CBSLA.com) — Get the snowboards and skis ready – Mountain High could be open as soon as this weekend.

With Southern California's weather finally cooling down, employees at the Wrightwood resort say snow blowers have been up and running for the past two nights.

"We could be opening very soon," Mountain High's John McColly said. "There's a chance we could be open this weekend."

By Thursday afternoon, it was official -- Mountain High announced they would open Friday for the 2015-16 season.

Storms have already brought two snowfalls to the resort, and the upcoming season is looking extremely promising with El Niño's expected arrival.

"Generally, El Niños bring a lot of snow at the resort," McColly said. "In the last big El Niño – 97, 98 – we got 310 inches. That's more than twice our annual snowfall, so we're looking forward to a huge winter this year."
