Motorists Stranded, Roadways Closed Across Southland Due To Cold Winter Storm

CAJON PASS (CBSLA.com) — A cold winter storm that has brought ice, snow and wind has stranded motorists across the Southland.

Widespread rescue efforts took place overnight Tuesday on Highway 138 in Crestline as well as the Mt. Baldy area in the San Bernardino Mountains, officials said.

Nearly 2oo people and dozens of cars were stranded due to the ice and snow. The rescue operations were completed by 3 a.m. Wednesday, according to the San Bernardino Fire Department.

The Ortega (74) Highway was closed from Grand Avenue to the Orange County Line. Orange County Sheriff's Search and Rescue teams responded around 7:45 a.m. to assist the CHP after reports of people trapped in vehicles.

Authorities were reminding motorists who are planning to drive to the snow to dress appropriate for winter weather and to carry additional food, water and blankets in their vehicle when traveling.
