Mother Of Newborn Left In Restaurant Toilet Charged

WEST COVINA (AP) — The mother of a newborn baby found in a toilet at a Subway restaurant has been charged with felony child abuse.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office says 37-year-old Mary Grace Trinidad is set for arraignment Monday afternoon. Prosecutors are asking her bail to be set at $100,000.

It's unclear whether Trinidad has an attorney.

Employees found Trinidad's crying infant Feb. 15 after seeing a bleeding woman leave the sandwich shop and following a trail of blood back to the toilet.

Trinidad, who is homeless, was arrested nearby. Trinidad had also been arrested Jan. 3 for possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The baby is expected to survive.
