Mother Of 7, Grandmother To 9 Killed In Riverside Hit-And-Run
RIVERSIDE (CBSLA.com) — The family of a woman killed in a hit-and-run outside of a Jack in the Box is looking for answers as they grieve for the mother of 7 and grandmother to 9.
Crime scene markers cover the asphalt where police say 52-year-old Janice Burney was left after being run over early Monday morning on W. Blaine Street.
The driver remains at large.
"If you know anything about my mom, please come forward," said Shamekia Jackson, the victim's daughter.
The victim's sister, Cheryl Burney, and other family members gathered to grieve. They say Janice was a mother of 7 and a grandmother to 9.
In recent years, she'd moved toward life on the streets, where she had plenty of friends.
"Whether she was homeless or not, it didn't have to happen," said Tommy Harris, a friend. "She was a sweet girl."
Police were still looking for more evidence, including security footage.
Until then, the family is far from finding closure.
They are hoping someone may have seen what happened and call the Riverside Police Department.
