Mother Accused Of Fatally Stabbing 3 Young Daughters Formally Charged

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) —  Authorities formally charged a 30-year-old woman Friday for allegedly stabbing her three young daughters to death.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney's office announced that formal charges were filed against Carol Ann Coronado.

She was charged with three counts of murder and one charge of attempted murder.

The DA revealed the attempted murder charge involved Coronado also attacking her mother.

Additionally, the DA's charging document contains a special allegation that the defendant personally used a deadly and dangerous weapon -- a knife -- in the commission of the crime.

Coronado remains hospitalized.

Officials said she cut herself numerous times.

Deputy District Attorney Emily Spear is assigned to the case.

The District Attorney has not decided if they will seek the death penalty.
