Mortuary Worker Accused Of Stealing From The Dead

LANCASTER (CBSLA.com) — A mortuary worker was arrested on suspicion of stealing a car and gun from the home of a deceased man in Lancaster.

Fernando Moguel, 41, was taken into custody in North Hollywood at 11:35 a.m. Wednesday.

He was sent to the home of an man March 5 to take his body to a mortuary.

But within 48 hours of the man's death, his vehicle and gun went missing from the house, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Later deputies learned that the car's title had been transferred to Moguel, Deputy Kevin Moody said.

Detectives then searched the suspect's home and found the missing weapon and vehicle, according to Moody.

Jail records show Moguel was being held in lieu of $35,000 bail.
