Mortuary Attendant Arrested After Dead Man's Property Stolen

LANCASTER (AP) — Los Angeles County sheriff's detectives arrested a mortuary attendant after a dead man's vehicle and firearm were stolen from his home.

A sheriff's statement says an elderly man was found deceased on March 5 and the Fernando Moguel, who worked as a mortuary attendant, came to take custody of the body.

Within 48 hours the vehicle and a firearm were stolen from the residence and the vehicle was transferred into the name of the attendant.

The property was recovered when a search warrant was served at a location in Los Angeles, and Moguel was arrested and booked on suspicion of grand theft vehicle and possession of a stolen firearm.

According to jail records, Moguel was freed on $35,000 bail and no court date has been set.
